Internships
Opportunities for graduate students.
Internship opportunities are available for graduate students in fields of study including emergency management, homeland security, disaster management, GIS/modeling or resiliency programs (sociology, environmental studies, etc.) from an accredited university, school or college.
Emergency Management projects and initiatives within the program will be based on experience, interest and Citywide priorities.
The City of Virginia Beach’s Internship Program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to apply and utilize acquired knowledge in a field of study. Benefits of the program include:
- Application of academic course work to hands-on projects and initiatives
- Exposure to projects and opportunities that will provide practical experience for future job opportunities
- Ability to exchange ideas with professionals in the field
- Problem solving in a work environment
Application Process
- Express your interest in the internship opportunity by filling out the City’s Internship Program application.
- Once you apply to the posting, your information will be available to the Human Resources Recruiting team for further consideration.
Minimum Requirements
- Enrolled student completing their master's or Ph.D. degree
- Good academic standing as determined by the enrolled school, college or university
- Related degrees: Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Disaster Management, GIS/Modeling, or Resiliency programs (Sociology, Environmental, etc.)
Working Hours
- Minimum of 10 hours a week
- Minimum of three (3) credit hours or 120 hours
